About Microneedling
MLL
When it comes to minimally invasive treatments, Micro-needling Collagen Induction therapy with the eDermaStamp® by Dermaroller® is clinically proven and is perhaps the most successful treatment available for the common signs and symptoms of aging such as wrinkles, loss of skin volume, and crepey skin. The eDermaStamp® by Dermaroller® micro-needling treatment is even proven to minimize scars and stretch marks. The eDermaStamp® by Dermaroller® therapy triggers the body’s spontaneous healing process, stimulating cell proliferation and causing the formation of new collagen. This results in a thicker, more supple, cellular matrix. Results: visibly younger looking skin.
Microneedling is performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of a sterile, disposable tip that allows effective treatment to hard-to-reach places (e.g. around the eyes, nose, and lips). Prior to the procedure, topical anaesthetic cream is applied for patient comfort. The basic Microneedling treatment includes the application of healing gels and serums during the procedure.
Multiple treatments over a period will assist in strengthening the epidermis and leaving you with improved skin texture and tone. A safe and effective treatment that is tailored to suit your individual needs.
Benefits of microneedling include treating and improving:
- LAcne scarring
- LFine lines, wrinkles
- LLoose skin
- LTexture of the skin
- LPore sizes
- LStretch marks
- LPigmentation issues and brown spots
By persistently triggering this healing process with a series of Micro Needling treatments, the body keeps repairing the skin incrementally and cumulatively to offer a result similar to fractional laser treatments or chemical peels, but without the side effects and extended downtime. The result is smoother, firmer, and younger looking skin.
Discomfort & Risk
The sensation of Micro Needling is uncomfortable (described as a stinging sensation), particularly in areas of bony prominence and where the skin is thinner such as the neck and around the eyes. Immediately following the procedure the skin will feel tight, dry, swollen, and sensitive to the touch. It’ll also look and feel sunburned. The sensitivity and redness will diminish significantly within 24 hours.
Other common short-term side effects include itching, discomfort, pinpoint bleeding or bruising, scabbing, and darkening of the treated area. Additionally, the skin may look and feel like sandpaper; these effects generally last 2-7 days as the treated skin flakes off and is replaced by new tissue.
While adverse reactions are extremely rare, there is a possibility of temporary side effects including but not limited to: infection, scarring, skin and tissue necrosis, herpes simplex outbreak, hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin), and hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin). Darkening or lightening of the skin usually fades within 6 months, but in rare cases, could be permanent. This reaction is more common in patients who are tan or who have darker skin tones. It can result or worsen when treated areas are exposed to the sun too soon following treatment. This risk can be minimized by avoiding sun exposure for 4 weeks before and after treatment and by adhering to pre and post treatment instructions.

Microneedling FAQ
What are the benefits of Microneedling?
Microneedling is used to treat and improve conditions like acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, loose skin, skin texture, pore size, brown spots, stretch marks, and pigment issues. It’s also called skin needling, collagen induction therapy, and percutaneous collagen induction.
What does Microneedling feel like?
The microneedling portion of the procedure takes roughly 15 to 30 minutes. The most common sensation during the procedure is a warm, scratching feeling as the tool is moved around the face. As the microneedling tool is moved around the face, you can expect to feel warm and scratch-like sensations. You may also notice some pain on the “bonier” areas of your face, such as your hairline, forehead, and jawline. The bones of the face such as the hairline, jawline and forehead tend to feel the most uncomfortable throughout the procedure.
Is it normal to have bumps after Microneedling?
It’s also possible to experience acne breakouts after skin needling. However, these should be mild and clear up on their own. Avoid picking at your skin, as this can lead to further scarring. The severity of microneedling side effects also depends on how you prepare for the procedure.
How long will it take to see results from Microneedling?
Four to six weeks
As soon as the deepest layers of your skin are penetrated by the needles, “micro-wounds” are created. This triggers your body’s wound healing processes to heal your micro wounds immediately.
How often should I do Microneedling?
The frequency of your treatments will depend on the length of your derma roller’s needles and your skin’s sensitivity. If your needles are shorter, you may be able to roll every other day, and if the needles are much longer, you may need to space out treatments every three to four weeks.
What happens to your skin after Microneedling?
Swelling and some skin peeling are all considered to be within the realm of normal up to 48 hours after the procedure. Other side effects, like bumps, breakouts, and dry skin, are also within the scope of what you may experience after microneedling, but not everyone will experience them.
What should you not do before Microneedling?
Do not use topical agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics or acids 5-7 days prior to your treatment. Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for at least 3 days prior to your microneedling session.
Can Microneedling reduce pore size?
Microneedling is a safe and effective method for reducing the appearance of enlarged pores. The micro injuries to the skin caused by microneedling trigger skin’s own wound healing response. The skin naturally produces new collagen and elastin. Collagen creates the appearance of smaller pores and tighter skin.
How long is your face red after Microneedling?
The inflammatory effect of microneedling is short. Within just 12-24 hours, your skin should fade from red to pink and the swelling should go down, though you may experience some sensitivity for up to 48 hours. Wash skin with a gentle cleanser and cool water, and pat dry with your hands.
Does your face peel after Microneedling?
Peeling and flaking of the treatment area may occur three to five days after microneedling as a result of increased skin cell turnover. … Instead, use a gentle moisturizer to help combat dry skin. The positive results of microneedling will become visible within two to four weeks.
Who is a good candidate for Microneedling?
Twenty Years and Older. In general, almost every adult is a good candidate for this procedure. Cosmetic dermatology isn’t normally suggested for children and teens because the body is still developing. Adults with any skin tone can benefit from needling because it merely stimulates the skin to build new tissue.
How do you calm down after Microneedling?
Since your skin will feel drier than usual, you can hydrate and restore your skin’s balance with a serum containing hyaluronic acid as well. Using moisturizers with ceramides and spritzing hydrating water sprays whenever your skin feels dry can also help soothe your skin.
What happens to the skin after Microneedling?
You can expect some swelling and skin peeling post treatment for up to 48-hours. Other side effects include bumps, breakouts, dry skin but may or may not be experienced by everyone.
Pre- and Post-Care
Treatment Instructions
MLL
Pre-Treatment INstructions
You will be asked to discontinue use of Retin A, Retinols, Vitamin A creams and other topic medications for 3-5 days before your micro needling treatment. It is required that you wear a sunscreen daily and use the appropriate home care topical products. Examples are Urban Skin Rx Even Tone Cream or Retinol Pads.
- LAvoid excessive Alcohol, Aspirin, NSAIDs (ibuprofen, Aleve) Garlic, Gingko Biloba, Fish Oils and Vitamin E for 5-7 days prior to your treatment to help decrease the risk of bruising during your treatment but is not contraindicationment
- LStop using topical retinoids 1 week prior to treatment
- LAvoid sun exposure 2 weeks prior to the treatment
- LFor Cold Sore sufferers - it is recommended to take anti-viral medication, the day before
Post-Treatment Instructions
12-72 hours post-treatment mineral makeup can be applied, but continue to use the Urban Skin Rx Post Procedure kit or a gentle cleanser, hyaluronic acid serum, and physical sunblock with an SPF of 25 or higher. If a more aggressive treatment was performed they should also be instructed to use a more occlusive balm such as Aquaphor.
After 48 to 72 hours following treatment, the client can return to regular skin care regimen. Retinol products are strongly suggested to use for optimal results.
Avoid alcohol-based toners for 10-14 days as well as excessive sun exposure for 10 days.*
* For treatment of acne scars and skin rejuvenation usually 5-8 treatments are recommended as well as combining with TCA CROSS (3 treatments) for acne scars 4-5 weeks apart).
* For management of stretch marks and surgical or keloid scars usually up to 8-10 treatments are required, spaced apart every 5-6 weeks. More time in between treatments is suggested due to the aggressive trauma to the skin, allowing proper recovery time to avoid over-stimulation. If scars/stretch marks are 6 months old or younger, less time in between treatments is okay.
- LFor at least 2 hours post treatment, avoid the use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare
- LNo makeup or sunscreen for 12 hours post treatment
- LWash face few hours after treatment or before bedtime using a gentle cleanser to remove all serum and dried blood

Micro Steps
What is microneedling with hyaluronic acid?
Microneedling is used to improve skin tone and texture, treating the appearance of scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, and pigmentation marks. This is a non-invasive treatment that involves using a device to create tiny holes in the skin’s surface, followed by the application of a topical product directly onto the surface for a deeper level of absorption and penetration into the skin. When
Microneedling paired with hyaluronic acid, a powerful moisture binding ingredient, provides the benefit of adding plumpness and hydration into the skin. It also prevents visible signs of aging.
Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), uses the skin’s ability to heal itself by puncturing the dermis of the skin with a microscopic needle, triggering the production of new collagen.
Microneedling is suitable for all skin types and colours. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in your body that binds to and absorbs water and gives a fullness and plumpness to the skin. Since your body makes less of hyaluronic acid as you get older, adding this topical to your microneedling treatment increases hydration to absorb into the skin, and increases the skin’s ability to utilize these nutrients, leading to plump, smooth, and youthful skin results.
What results can I expect with microneedling with Hyaluronic Acid?
Microneedling has proven to be an effective procedure on its own, but studies show that the results can be optimized when paired with special products and serums such as hyaluronic acid.
The microneedling process opens the skin and allows it to better absorb products into a deeper level of the skin. Hyaluronic acid when absorbed into the skin after microneedling, can aid in adding volume and providing nourishing hyaluronic acid to the skin. When paired with micro-needling, the repair process begins almost immediately resulting in softened wrinkles and scars, as well as a thicker dermis.
What Should I Expect During Treatment?
At MLL, we will have an in-depth consultation with you to understand your concerns, goals, and determine the best treatment plan for your specific needs.
During preparation, a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area. Once the microneedling process is performed, the hyaluronic acid is applied topically during the treatment to better access the deeper layers of your skin. The application of hyaluronic acid not only hydrates the skin, but it also nourishes and helps to revitalize the skin.
After your treatment, you will be provided with post-care instructions and should be able to resume your normal activities the following day.
What areas can be treated with Hyaluronic Acid?
The best and most common areas for treatment are:
Neck
Arms
DÉCOLLETÉ
(LOW NECKLINE)
FACE
Is there any downtime with microneedling with Hyaluronic Acid?
Recovery time is minimal, but it is best to allow yourself time to heal. Patients are normally able to resume back to normal activities the next day.
You may experience mild redness, bruising, and/or swelling at the injection site(s). Swelling usually resolves in 24-48 hours, and bruising can last up to two weeks.
* MLL starts with a double cleanse to ensure the skin is stripped of any make-up, debris etc
* Numbing is applied for 15 to 20 minutes
* Hyaluronic acid is applied during the microneedling treatment

What microneedling system does MLL use?

Dermaroller is Licensed by Health Canada
The eDermaStamp® by Dermaroller® is licensed by Health Canada. There are countless imitation products on the market that are not licensed by Health Canada so we recommend you do your research, to protect your health and safety. Search for Dermaroller’s Health Canada license.
The Science of the eDermaStamp
The eDermaStamp® by Dermaroller® causes minimally invasive precision micro-injuries of the epidermis and dermis, without causing open wounds or ablative damage. The puncturing channels close after a short time and these micro-injuries trigger the body’s wound healing cascade, which induces an increased collagen production in the treated skin. The eDermaStamp® by Dermaroller® triggers the construction of new tissue by stimulating healthy cell regeneration in precision-targeted areas that show the signs of aging. It effectively reduces wrinkles, tightens and thickens the skin, and – perhaps most impressively – fills and smooths scars.
Certified Medical-Grade Equipment
The eDermaStamp® by Dermaroller® is ISO13485 certified, meeting all standards for medical-grade equipment in manufacturing, materials, sterile packaging and more.
NOTE: Though it is a certified medical device, it’s not limited to physician use. With appropriate training offered through Dermaspark, non-medical spas can administer this treatment.
Fastest Motor on the Market
At 150 strokes per second (the fastest on the market!) the eDermaStamp® by Dermaroller® can safely glide over the skin without scratching or tearing the skin. Poor quality micro-needling pens which operate at a slower insertion rate (100 to 120 strokes per second) can cause scratches and micro-tears in the tissue as the tip moves across the face. The result can be increased epidermal damage and increased risk of infection.
Non Ablative
Where other scar and anti-aging treatments are ablative (destroying tissue), the eDermaStamp®️ by Dermaroller®️ respects the integrity of the epidermis and dermis, using atraumatic (non-traumatic) perforations to gently trigger the generation of new tissue.
Optimal Needle Count
Don’t be mislead by imitation rollers that boast “the most needles”. Though we want to maximize the number of perforations, too many needles compromises the safety and comfort of the treatment. Imagine a bed of nails: while a bed of nails can easily support your body weight without a nail perforating your skin, a single nail would easily penetrate your skin under the same pressure. Similarly, a roller with too many needles will require dangerous and uncomfortable amounts of pressure in order to penetrate the skin to the appropriate depth. The eDermaStamp® by Dermaroller® employs the optimal number of needles to maximize effectiveness, safety and comfort.
Electric vs. Battery
The eDermaStamp® by Dermaroller® is built for consistency. As an electric device, it outputs consistent power which means consistent performance. A battery operated device outputs inconsistent power. As the battery starts to wear out, the tip will slow down and the results can be unwanted micro tears and scratching of the skin.
